Why is My Car Heater Not Working?

If the car heater is not working, it will, either blow cold air or it will not blow air at all. If it blows cold air, then something is preventing the hot antifreeze from getting to the heater core.

Why my car heater is not working?

This could be a valve or a switch. Or, the heater core may be plugged. Which might end up being a problem on its own. You will need to check the coolant level but do that when the engine is cold. If the coolant level is low, adding some more coolant can solve the issue.

In case the car heater doesn’t blow at all, then you will have either a bad blower motor or something that doesn’t let the motor get enough power. If the blower motor is getting power, however, the issue might as well be a bad blower. But if there’s no power in there, then you might have issues with the blower resistor, switch, fuse or power. Any of these might very well be the culprit.

Of course, these are only a few of the causes that can lead to this type of problem. There are times when the blend door or the heater valve can be stuck. And even a bad switch or improper linkage might end up being a problem. That’s why the best thing that you can do is to talk with a mechanic and find a way to solve the problem. The faster you can do that, the better it will be for you.

What does it mean if my car heater isn’t getting hot enough?

Usually, if there is a car heater problem, the heater core will be the main culprit here. If that’s the case, you need to replace the heater core. You can try to patch it or at least make it work for a tiny bit, but in the end, the best thing is to replace the heater core with a new one.

Sometimes the issue can be caused by a heater core leak. The coolant needed to provide you with heat is leaking, and thus you are unable to use your heating system. Even if the car heater is getting a bit hot, it won’t be able to generate the heat you need for the entire vehicle. Working closely with a professional will help solve the problem quickly and with great results.

Can a Stuck thermostat cause a heater to not work?

The thermostat is a valve that you can find in the cooling system. It’s designed to stay closed when the engine is cold, and it helps create a coolant circulation path. Its primary focus is to heat up the engine, and it helps lower the emissions generated into the air as well.

Normally the thermostat needs to open when the engine reaches the optimal temperature. However, if you have a stuck thermostat, the valve will not be moving properly. A stuck valve is going to cause the heater to not work the way you want it to. Every defective thermostat will end up delaying the warm-up process, and it will also make heat generation pretty much impossible.

We have been looking for a trustworthy auto repair shop since our auto shop owner retired years ago, we have *not* had a good experience until we found G&G Auto Repair. Hands down these folks are the best, competent, honest, and trustworthy shop that I have run across, these folks are reliable like our old shop. They have done great work on our van at fair prices, and that’s all I can ask for :) They also go above and beyond by texting all repair docs, assessments, and diagnostic results to my phone for review and approval. I really wish I had found them years ago. I highly recommend this shop!

I went to G&G to get my (damaged) oil pan replaced on my Toyota. However, when I got my car back, the technician had over tightened the drain plug leading to the gasket cracking, causing a fair amount of oil to leak out of my Toyota unbeknownst to me until I had gotten home. Fortunately, after a few phone calls, Shaun told me to return the vehicle after I told him the worsening severity of the situation, and my vehicle got promptly fixed after I had bought it back, and I commend them for owning up to their mistake. Overall, it seems they did a good job repairing the vehicle, and it’s priced a little on the higher side but for this state, and the overnight turnaround time it would say it’s more than reasonable. I would come back again.
