Tire Replacement

Worn tires are not only unsightly, but more importantly they’re a safety concern! The tires on your car or truck are pretty important. They’re the moving parts that keep your drive smooth and safe. We’re here to make sure you and your family are safe for every mile you travel. Our team of mechanics is well versed in tire replacement needs and we make quick work of getting you the right tires for your vehicle.

When should I replace my tires?

The tread on a tire are the deep grooves and patterns you see when you look at a new tire, and they are what gives the tire traction on the road. Tires need to be replaced when they have reached 2/32” of remaining tread depth. There is a helpful tool that can aid in determining the life remaining in your tires. Tires have a molded indicator called “wear bars” across their tread pattern, located from he outside should to the inside shoulder. Wear bars are there to warn drivers when the tires no longer meet the minimum tread depth.

During tire replacement our mechanics will:

  • Verify size/speed/load rating of your new tires to make sure they match your door placard.
  • Inspect your lug nuts and lug studs for excessive wear for your safety.
  • Clean any mating surfaces of rust and corrosion to ensure proper clamping force.
  • Use state of the art wheel service equipment to mount and balance your tires. We make sure your tires are balanced correctly using the best adapters available.
  • Inform you of any unusual tire wear from your old tires.
  • Properly torque all your lug nuts to factory specification to ensure proper clamping force.

Tire Rotation

Rotating your tires saves you money in the long run! It might seem like an unnecessary service, but trust us, it’s absolutely necessary. Tires need to be rotated because they will wear differently on the front of your vehicle than they will on the rear. Rotating the tires evens out the wear patterns so those front or back wear patterns won’t become excessive and shorten the life of your tires. Your tires should be rotated every 5,000 miles, or with every oil change.

Regularly rotating your tires prevents excessive wear and tear in one spot, which can lead to tire blowouts and expensive repair bills. Our tire rotation service requires little time for a great return on your investment – not to mention it minimizes safety concerns. Tire rotation helps to equalize tread wear and is critical to gain the maximum life from your tire investment. Rotating your tires isn’t as simple as it might sound, and it’s important to let qualified and experienced mechanics handle the job. There are specific tire rotation patterns that should be followed, based on these factors:

  • Whether your tires are directional or non-directional (directional tires have a tread pattern that is designed to rotate in one direction only)
  • Whether your vehicle is front-wheel, rear-wheel, 4-wheel, or all-wheel drive
  • Whether you have a full-size spare tire or a mini-spare
  • Whether you have staggered fitment tires (different sizes and/or offsets on front and rear) or not

Maintenance Tips/Suggestions: Refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended rotation interval and pattern; generally a rotation interval of 5,000 miles is recommended. We recommend a tire rotation with every oil change. The rotation pattern varies with different makes and models, which shows the tire locations during rotation. Some vehicles have different size tires on the front and back or directional tires. This limits the locations that a tire may take on the vehicle. When in doubt, check the owner’s manual or consult a professional technician for guidance. Tire rotation time also offers a good opportunity to have the tires and wheels balanced. It’s another step you can take to maximize your tire investment.

Wheel Balance & Alignment

Is your vehicle vibrating at certain speeds, say, between 50 and 70 mph? If so, chances are your wheel is out of balance. One section of your tire is heavier than the other because it’s endured more exposure to the friction and heat of the road. Come in for prompt, professional service from your local G&G mechanics. We often find that our customers are very satisfied with the difference that such a simple and inexpensive procedure makes.

Look for these signs, and if you find either one, come see us: Scalloped, erratic wear pattern on tires or vibration in steering wheel, seat, or floorboard at certain speeds.

Often confused with wheel alignment, a properly balanced wheel is a beautiful, perfectly tuned wheel-tire combination. Wheel balancing, also known as tire balancing, is when the weight of the combined tire and wheel assembly are equalized so that it spins smoothly and without interruption at high speeds. Balancing involves putting the wheel/tire assembly on a balancer, which centers the wheel and spins it to determine where the weights should go. We place measured lead weights on the opposite side of the “heavy spot” which is the noticeable tread wear on your unbalanced tire.

Tire wear is inevitable and as wear occurs, the balance will slowly and dynamically change over time. Weight imbalance is normal and just needs to be corrected as soon as possible to prevent any further issues over time. Correcting wheel imbalance early on saves you from having to spend money on new tires prematurely. Listen, we know good tires aren’t cheap and the mechanics at G&G Auto Repair are always looking for ways to save you some cash. Wheel balancing is a simple service that extends the life of your tires and helps you get every mile out of them before it’s time to replace them.
